Monday, May 28 is the extended deadline for the Bike Video PSA. The competition, sponsored by Goose Island, Bike Chicago (Department of Cultural Affairs and Special Events), Bicycle Film Festival, and The Chainlink, began in early May. Read our earlier post.

Tuesday, May 29 is the Wolf Point skyscraper development meeting, a project that intends to bring over 1,000 car parking spaces to an already congested area. The meeting, while not required by any law or policy, is being called by 42nd Ward Alderman Reilly. “The Hines Development Team will present their proposed plan for the site; discuss their Traffic Study (commissioned at my request); and answer your questions about the Proposal.”

1. BRT discussion hosted by Metropolitan Planning Council. The CTA’s BRT project manager Chris Ziemann will be in attendance. “Join us at Floyd’s Pub with special guests Josh Ellis and Peter Skosey from Metropolitan Planning Council and Chris Ziemann from the Chicago Transit Authority for discussion on Bus Rapid Transit. The event will include a short tour of Western Avenue where our guests will point out opportunities and challenges of retrofitting a street with BRT.”

Western and Ashland Corridors BRT Open House. The purpose of this meeting is to: Introduce the project and the Alternatives Analysis (AA) process. The AA is a study of the potential impacts of the various project options. Each option or “alternative” includes different features and service plans. Provide additional information to the public about the project. Solicit feedback from the community on the project. All begin at 5:30 PM and end at 7:30 PM.

The Regional Transportation Authority has three grant program for municipalities to receive funding to improve their transit access. Programs are Community Planning, Job Access and Reverse Commute (JARC), and Innovation, Coordination, and Enhancement (ICE). The City of Chicago recently used an ICE grant to build high-capacity, sheltered bike parking at 6 train stations. Read more details on RTA’s website.

  1. Thanks for adding the Bike Commuter Challenge, guys!  Please edit your entry to reflect that Bike to Work Week begins June 9, however – we don’t want to exclude those who bike to work on the weekends!
