The Chicago Department of Transportation (CDOT) will officially open the protected bike lanes on Dearborn Street on Friday afternoon, Chicago’s first two-way bike route with dedicated bicycle traffic signals.
CDOT will also formally release the Chicago Streets for Cycling Plan 2020, which calls for a 645-mile network of bike lanes to be in place by 2020 to provide a bicycle accommodation within half-mile of every Chicagoan. The plan sets forth a strategy to achieve Mayor Rahm Emanuel’s goal of making Chicago the best big city for bicycling in America.
Please join us for the grand opening of the Dearborn Protected Bike Lane and the release of the Streets for Cycling Plan 2020! A press conference is scheduled for tomorrow, Friday 12/14.
When: Friday, December 14 at 1:00 p.m.
Where: Park/Plaza located at approx. 700 S. Dearborn (just north of Polk)
We look forward to celebrating Chicago’s first two-way protected bike lane with our vibrant cycling community!
Thanks for all of your support,
CDOT Bike Program

What time does it open? I have a hearing tomorrow morning at the Dirksen federal building at Dearborn and Jackson, and I would love to roll up on my bike!
Woot!
I saw the bike signals on this morning! Unfortunately I have to work all day, or else I’d be there.
Woot! I’m down the street and will time my lunch break to join! Can’t WAIT to commute home on it tomorrow evening!!
Me too! I like the idea of community lunch break rides. If anyone in Columbia College-land ever wants to take one hit me up.
So excited! This will make my commute from the train awesome!
Will there be a follow-up event in time for the 9/10pm news? I work too far away from the Loop to be there at 1pm. 🙁
What a great way to wrap an up an exciting week!
I rode the Dearborn bike lane this morning for the first time. I normally take LaSale or Clark heading south from Kinzie.
It’s horrible.
*No protection over the bridge
*trash, ice manhole covers litter the right side when heading south
*pedestrians don’t look north because cars only come from the south
I doubt I’ll use this again.
Bridge plates, and pothole repairs to prevent frozen puddles, are in the works.
